Dr. Priscilla Song awarded Sin Wai-Kin Fellowship
Dr. Priscilla Song was awarded a Sin Wai-Kin Junior Fellowship by the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences for the project “Everyday Cultures of Mask Wearing in the COVID-19 Era” (新冠肺炎時代:口罩的日常文化). Primary investigator Dr. Song will work together with co-investigators Dr. Emma Buchtel, Dr. Joseph Walline, Dr. Chaoxiong Zhang, and Dr. Izumi Nakayama to explore the sociocultural and politico-economic dimensions of masks as a crucial technology of everyday life for managing the COVID-19 pandemic. This research project aims to produce qualitative and quantitative evidence in order to answer important public questions about why, and whether, cultures differ in mask wearing attitudes. This project synergizes with Professor Angela Leung’s Collaborative Research Fund project on “Making Modernity in East Asia: Technologies of Everyday Life, 19th-21st Centuries” (No. HKU C7011-16G).
